The Rangeville Space Pilots Club filled the weekend of the 14th to the 16th August with a packed program of celebrations to mark the club’s 50th anniversary.

On the Friday night, the Club held a regular Club night but with an open invitation to those interested to attend and see the Club as it is today.

Some past Space Pilots including Trevor and Shirley McIvor (the club’s founders) attended and reminisced.

Saturday afternoon saw the Club run another one of its regular Rocket Launches at the TARMAC grounds at Hodgsonvale.

A number of past Space Pilots attended and took part. Some even dug around in the cupboards at home and brought along rockets they had from their time in the Club years before. Many of these were flown on the day.

The Hon. Mr Ian McFarlane, Minister for Industry and Science, was in attendance and oversaw the launch of a rocket as well. This launch was the biggest the Club had seen in at least 15 years.

Saturday night saw the Club host a dinner at the Church. Around 200 people attended and enjoyed entertainment provided by the Senior Space Pilots as well as a great meal, celebration cake and a host of old video and movie footage covering Club activity from the early years up until recent Camp and Club nights.

Past Space Pilots from as far away as Adelaide and Sydney were there for the weekend.

Sunday night saw a special Church Service to honour the Club. Pastor Darryl Seip, a Space Pilot from 1969 through to the mid 70’s, led the service.

The Toowoomba Space Pilots now look forward to the next 50 years.
