‘Your Career, Your Future, Your Life’ is a careers evening with a difference and is targeted at Christian high school, TAFE and university students, as well as school leavers and adults considering a career change.
Event Coordinator Ian Collett said the purpose of the event is to give Christians considering their future careers, a taste of not only what it means to work in a particular career, but to follow Jesus in their field of work, while also breaking down stereotypes about what Christian ministry looks like.
“When young people – and adults, in general – think about Christian ministry, they tend to think about the typical Christian careers, such as pastoring a church or youth work,” he said.
“But what does it mean to follow Jesus while working as a vet, or as an accountant, or a journalist?”
“We’ve gathered together a wide range of people from a variety of professions and vocations, including vocational Christian ministries, who can give a unique insight into what it means to be a disciple of Christ in their workplace,” Mr Collett said.
While events like careers markets are about displays and information handouts, Ian said this event is different.
“It is an opportunity to hear interviews from people in a variety of careers, about what they enjoy and what following Jesus in their occupations means to them.”
There will be time to interact with people across a wide range of occupations, with over 60 representatives, about what they enjoy in their work. Careers counsellors from Christian Outreach College and Toowoomba Christian College and support for tertiary and vocational students will be available for further information or guidance as needed.
“This event is a valuable resource for churches, young people and parents,” said Ian.
‘Your Career, Your Future, Your Life’ is a free event and will be held at Rangeville Community Church at 362 Mackenzie Street, Toowoomba on Wednesday 29th July from 5:30 for 6:00pm and finishing at 8:30pm.
