It was another huge turn out for the annual 4GR Mayoral Carols by Candlelight earlier this month, as over 12,000 gathered with family members to celebrate the start of the Christmas Season.

“It’s just a great big family event,” said Natasha Sanderco from Toowoomba, who was there with her extended family. “We’ve been coming since I was a child.”

Everywhere you looked across the vast crowd at Queens Park, families were singing, dancing and enjoying the festive atmosphere.

“We love to get together as a family and sing songs,” said Katie Rubb from Kearney Springs. “We just love Christmas, spending time with family and friends and teaching the kids about the true meaning of Christmas.”

Amongst the fun and excitement of the singing and fireworks, it’s easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas, but not for the Joanknecht family from Darling Heights.

“Christmas is all about celebrating Jesus’ birth, which is the real joy of Christmas,” said Kat Joanknecht.

There was some great performances on the night, but the standout was a stirring rendition of “Oh Holy Night”, a duet between HumeRidge Church of Christ Senior Pastor Dale White and his son Chris.

“Dale and Chris were amazing,” said Lorinda Finch. “It brought tears to my eyes.”

“It was the highlight of the night,” said Yasmin Hadfield.

OneChurch News trusts that you really enjoy time with your family this Christmas, and encourages you to open your home to those who may not have family to enjoy.

But most of all, may you enjoy Jesus this season, and may you know the rich blessings of being part of the Heavenly Father’s family.
